Google Ads for Pet Stores
Pet-store acquisition needs clear species, life-stage and pack-size information, with repeat-purchase assumptions grounded in real customer behaviour.
Match the product to the animal and use case
Species, life stage and size matter when they define suitability. Use breed references only where relevant and supportable. A broad product name can attract shoppers whose needs the item does not meet. Keep feed attributes and the landing page consistent, particularly where several variants share similar packaging.
Make pack size and price comparisons clear
A small trial pack and a bulk bag can have different conversion behaviour and contribution. Check quantities, units and variant destinations. In an illustrative food feed, species, life stage, formulation and pack weight may be more useful than a vague “premium” claim. Do not infer health or therapeutic claims from a category label.
Separate repeat potential from proven repeat value
Food, litter and consumables may be reordered, but repeat revenue is not guaranteed. Examine actual customer cohorts, time to reorder, discounts and fulfilment cost before using future value to justify a higher acquisition cost. Accessories and one-off equipment may need a different allowance.
Evaluate subscriptions as a separate commercial journey
Where subscriptions exist, distinguish first-order incentives, renewals, cancellation and one-off purchases in the commercial analysis. Do not count an initial subscription order as the full expected lifetime value unless the measurement design explicitly and defensibly supports that interpretation.
Choose campaign groups that reflect economics
Review heavy consumables, small accessories, new-customer offers and replenishable bestsellers separately where the distinction changes decisions. Shopping and Performance Max need reliable product identifiers and purchase values. Relevant Search campaigns may help with category intent, but should land on an appropriate category or product experience.
Answer suitability and delivery questions on mobile
Review species/life-stage guidance, pack-size selection, ingredients or specifications where relevant, delivery cost and repeat-order options. Keep claims accurate and avoid replacing product information with generic reassurance. A buyer should not discover an important suitability restriction only after adding the item to the cart.
Example diagnostic sequence
Methodology example: review a heavy repeat-purchase category whose headline ROAS looks strong. Calculate the shipping subsidy, separate new and repeat customers where possible, and inspect whether pack-size choices cause confusion. Validate the repeat assumption before raising the acquisition allowance. This is not a client result.
How I would start
First establish the measurement and product economics, then choose the feed, campaign or store constraint worth addressing. The €650 diagnostic provides a prioritised roadmap and review call. Ongoing management is scoped by catalogue, markets and implementation complexity.
